Do you really need ISO/IEC 42001? Guide and honest read

What ISO/IEC 42001 actually contains, what certification costs, who genuinely needs it and who is buying compliance theater. No sales pitch.

Search for "ISO 42001" in Italian and the entire first page of Google is certification bodies. DNV, Bureau Veritas, CSQA, UNI itself. Every single result is written by someone whose business model is selling you the audit. That is not a conspiracy, it is just how the market works. But it means nobody on that page has an incentive to tell you the one thing you actually need to know: whether you need this standard at all.

I do not sell certifications. I build AI compliance tooling and I advise companies on AI governance, which means I have read the standard, mapped it against the AI Act, and watched clients decide for and against it. This is the read I wish existed when I started.
