Digital Euro: what may change for your company's treasury

A cold operational read of the digital euro for businesses: timeline, holding limits, why treasury barely changes, and what banks should actually watch.

The digital euro debate has two default registers: the brochure and the bunker. Either it is the future of European payments, or it is programmable money coming to confiscate your savings. Both registers sell newsletters. Neither helps a CFO decide whether anything in the company's treasury needs to change.

I have spent years working across fintech and blockchain architecture, and I wrote a book on institutional DeFi, so I follow this file closely and with no tribal jersey. Here is the cold operational read, everything verified on ECB and EU sources as of August 2026: where the project actually stands, what the design says about businesses, and my one-paragraph position at the end, clearly labeled as a position.
